Last week Brandon's unit had a Change of Command Ceremony and families were invited. We have a new Commanding Officer now! Its always fun to see the guys in their dress uniforms. And it makes for some great photo- ops. Garrett and his friend Lucy (who is two months to the day older than him) kept us all entertained during and after the ceremony. Toddlers that age are so fun. For instance they pointed out every bug that flew by and repeated the words "bug, bug, bug..." until one of us acknowledged them. When the planes flew over head they waved and shouted "hiiiii!!" and when the Chaplain had us praying Garrett was yelling "wake up!" (like on The Wiggles) at everyone! Too funny! I guess they didn't get the memo that we are supposed to be quiet during the ceremony!
Sitting in the seats infront of us was PGA pro golfer and New Orleans native Kelly Gibson and his wife. He was there to recieve a special award from the Coast Guard for all that he did to help and assist our guys with food and basic necessities during Katrina rescue and relief efforts. He camped out in a tent along side our guys in the days after Katrina. He was very gracious for the award and has set aside a chunk of money that he has raised for Katrina relief for the families of our Unit. Very cool guy!
